The Project includes the renovation of the existing Filtration and Backwash system, the construction of a new Air Scour System and the installation of a Fieldbus Communication System. The existing Filtration Facility utilizes 80 Filter Cells to process as average flow of 380 MGD, with a peak flow capacity of 850 MGD. The existing facility must remain active during the upgrade and implementation process.
Details of the project include:
- Construction of two new Blower Buildings on the deck of the existing Filtration Facility
- A new Electrical Room with 5 KV Switchgear
- Six new 5 KV Blowers for the Air Scour System. Each 400 HP blower has a designed air flow of 6,240 SCFM
- Over 4,000 LF of 16-inch stainless steel pipe and associated valves and instrumentation
- A complete new control system for the Filtration and Disinfection Facility. The system will integrate a new Fieldbus communication system into the DC WASA's Process Controls and Computer System. The Fieldbus system will monitor and control approximately 550 devices and instruments. An additional 1,000 I/O points shall be transmitted via discrete and analog signals.
USC has worked closely with the DC WASA's operations staff to coordinate shutdowns of existing processes and commissioning of new work. This relationship has minimized process interruptions and has allowed for the acceleration of various phases of the upgrade.
