This project involved the demolition and replacement of three (3) deep filters including media removal, block demolition, concrete repair and restoration, as well as the installation of new underdrain blocks, support gravel and filter media.
This Project included:
- Replacement of approximately 1,800 feet of surface washwater piping performed in ten phases over the active filters
- Upgrading of the existing alum and lime delivery systems, which consisted of the installation of four (4) new bag shakers, piping, and electrical system upgrades
- Significant rehabilitation of the HVAC system at both plant sites, including installation of five (5) HV units, four (4) exhaust fans, four (4) duct furnaces, new gas lines, ductwork, and all new electrical service and HVAC controls.
All work was completed inside an existing operational filter complex posing a formable challenge. Vacuum trucks and an eductor were utilized to minimize the disturbance to the existing treatment process. The installation of much of the ductwork over the active filters and the inaccessibility of the HVAC equipment were significant hurdles to overcome.
