The Little Patuxent WRP upgrade increased the plant’s capacity and improved treatment performance to achieve enhanced nutrient removal (ENR). Facilities constructed included a grit and screenings facility, primary and secondary clarifiers, aeration complex, solids handling, denitrification filters, and UV disinfection. The plant-wide modifications required detailed sequencing of tie-ins, testing, and commissioning to allow continuous plant operation throughout construction.

Ulliman Schutte, in a JV with Clark Construction, was selected as CMAR in a two-step process at the 20% design stage, allowing us to be heavily involved in design development. Informal, “real-time” estimates helped the team evaluate various design options. Preconstruction services also included Ulliman Schutte's best-value equipment procurement process and intricate Maintenance of Plant Operations (MOPO) planning to ensure continual flow treatment. The team environment allowed these services to be performed as a seamless process with complete collaboration and transparency.

"If I got a call from anybody in the industry, any of my peers in water-wastewater, I would tell them that this has been the best construction project I've been involved in in 33 years."
